I believe in magic and that dreams really do come true. I believe if you work hard and you work with integrity, your efforts will pay off. I believe in being graceful even in the most ungraceful situations (note that this is a work in progress, and not always easy). I believe in taking ownership of the choices you make—positive or negative—and looking graciously for the gift that lay in that experience. I believe in breathing in deeply and taking the first step forward, even when you are uncertain of what the next step will look like. I choose to live and love and be happy – fully, completely, every single day of my life and I believe that others want the same thing. I believe that we are all lights onto one another; charged with helping our fellow beings to find their inner shining. And that’s exactly what I have committed my life to doing: helping others to find their inner shining – the luminosity that is their birthright.
When everything fell apart…
Yoga found me when I was in the depths of my deepest despair. I hate to sound so dramatic about it but it’s true! I had come to a point in my life where I was financially, emotionally, and spiritually bankrupt. I’d gone through a terrible divorce after 15 years and my children were hurting. I found myself with the foundation of who I thought I was crumbled beneath my feet and I held the jackhammer in my hand.
It was a culmination of each choice I had made, both conscious and unconscious, that had led me to my current state. At that time, I lacked the skills to accept ownership for my role in the heartaches and failures, so I ran—as I had done so many times before—in order to not feel or see myself for who I really was. I thank God that I eventually had the insight to run into the hot room of a Bikram Yoga studio.
Yoga Saved My Life
Fast-forward seven years to today and I am a woman in progress though significantly transformed. I became a certified yoga instructor in 2012 and have pursued various modalities and trainings as a means to not only build upon my strengths as a teacher but as a human being. There was a palpable healing that took place when I became a practitioner of yoga; an awakening, a knowing and an undoubtable remembrance of my connection to the divine that I have never been able to claim through counseling or on my own. So this is why I continue to practice, this is why I learn, this is why I teach.
My Teaching Style
At the core people want to be the best that they can be. I approach each client’s situation with compassion but we never walk the path most traveled. We must get down and dirty if the results are to follow. Allow me to clarify that results don’t necessarily mean those things viewable by the human eye. I’m speaking about working through the gunk that lingers right beneath the surface.
I spent the first 14 years of my career in various aspects of retail banking, real estate, insurance and have owned several businesses including a group home for teens and a transitional home for women in recovery. This experience has proved invaluable and allows me to coach clients from an intellectual and intuitive standpoint.
